If you want to discover how versatile coffee can taste, our new Gedeb espresso is the perfect choice. The Gedeb is a spicy and very complex espresso that impresses with its intense aroma. The special thing about Gedeb is the interplay of sweetness and acidity. This coffee is very versatile and even changes enormously in the course of drinking. At first, the espresso tastes incomparably flowery and fruity, a bit like apricot and tangerine. This fruitiness is in great balance with the intense sweetness of this coffee, reminiscent of pastries such as sponge cake and cookie. As the espresso cools, an Earl Grey tea note emerges and becomes more pronounced. A pleasant spiciness lingers in the aftertaste, reminiscent of fresh cardamom. The Gedeb espresso is rather lightly roasted, so that it hardly tastes of roasted aromas but thus all its flavorful facets come to the fore.
Gedeb Espresso is suitable for all types of espresso preparation. We recommend it for preparation with the espresso machine, the stovetop pot or the AeroPress. We are also amazed at how great the Gedeb tastes prepared in the filter machine or the French Press. Since the roast is not so dark, even the filter coffee preparation methods still suit Gedeb perfectly.
We roast the Gedeb every week fresh and particularly gently in our roastery in Berlin. In the process, our roast masters pay close attention to the moment at which the sweetness and aroma of the coffee develop optimally. The roasting profile is individually compiled by our roast masters depending on the nature of the coffees.

The coffee is named after a small zone in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, called Gedeb. This zone has produced the most exquisite coffees from Ethiopia in recent years. The Washing Station of Gedeb is located at a very high altitude of 2,100 m.n.n. and so the cherries here ripen late during the harvest season. This makes the cherries very sweet and provides optimal conditions for an exceptional and complex coffee.
The optimal conditions for the coffee provide an incomparable floral-fruity taste.
Coffee farmer Aynalem Kupo places the highest value on careful preparation of the cherries. After picking, the ripe red coffee cherries are separated from unripe cherries by floating in a water bath and then mechanically depulped, i.e. the beans are separated from the pulp. Subsequently, the remaining pulp („mucilage“) is separated from the bean by fermentation in a water tank. Finally, the beans are placed on elevated drying beds for uniform drying, where they are turned by hand at regular intervals. After about 14 days, the beans have reached the optimum residual moisture and can now be packed in jute bags for export.
