Espresso Shantawene

The Shantawene is our new "natural" espresso from Ethiopia. Natural refers to coffees that are sun-dried as whole cherries after picking. This processing gives the beans a complex, fruity flavor profile with pronounced sweetness.

FRUITY TASTE NOTES OF BLUEBERRY AND BLACK TEA
SWEET & EXOTIC TASTE
Shantawene is a sweet and fruity espresso that impresses with its intense and complex aromas. The fruity notes are reminiscent of ripe blueberries and strawberries. In the aftertaste, a creamy taste of milk chocolate comes to the fore.
Preparation tips!
The roast profile of Shantawene is adapted to all types of espresso preparation. We recommend it for preparation with the espresso machine, the espresso pot or the AeroPress. Due to the wonderful fruity notes, it is also very well suited as an iced espresso or cold brew.
We roast your coffee fresh every week
We roast the Shantawene in a gentle drum roasting process in our roastery in Berlin. Shantawene is roasted to a medium roast, so that it is very balanced. With great sensitivity, our roasters determine exactly the point at which the complex aromas of the green coffee unfold optimally. The roasting profile is individually composed by our roast masters depending on the characteristics of the coffees.

Unique espresso from passionate handcrafting
Shantawene is a community in the Bensa area, located in the Sidamo Zone in southern Ethiopia. Bensa is known for its floral, sweet and complex coffees and therefore the coffees here are among the best in the world. The washing station in Shantawene is situated at a very high altitude of 2,090m above sea level. Through the ideal combination of terroir, climate, the local coffee variety and passionate manual labour in the preparation, the Shantawene espresso develops its distinctive fruity taste.
After picking, the farmers carefully sort out the ripe red cherries to dry them on raised drying beds in the sun for several days. During this process, the sweetness of the coffee cherries is slowly absorbed into the beans. You can taste the result! Shantawene has an incomparably sweet taste that reminds us of ripe blueberries and strawberries – and sometimes even tropical fruits! It is a very multi-faceted espresso that changes and evolves in taste from the first sip to the last. Try it for yourself, close your eyes, and drink your espresso without milk and very slowly. What does the taste remind you of?

Ohne Milch top!
I've been going through different offerings from Coffee Circle for espresso at home and this is my favorite so far. I think the acidity (rated 2 on this page) and strength (rated 4 on this page) are misleading. To my taste buds, this is the brightest, most evenly balanced "espresso roast" of theirs I've tried so far. It has a really nice fruit acidity that introduces complexity that doesn't exist in Sidamo (which is rated a 3 in acidity). The flavor is unique in a great way and leaves a light, pleasant aftertaste. It also makes a very nice crema straight out of the bag. I imagine this would make a very nice cup of pour over coffee, and versatility in a single offering is a bonus.
My preparation was 11.5g in, 25g out made with a La Pavoni hand lever machine with the group head starting at 85 degrees C.
Exzellentes Produkt, Weiter so!

Unfassbar lecker!
