A Chocolate Lover's Dream

CHOCOLATY & FRUITY JUST LIKE YOUR FAVORITE DESSERT

Picture this: You’re diving into a jar of silky chocolate mousse layered with juicy plum compote. It melts on your tongue—smooth, sweet, and utterly indulgent. That’s exactly the kind of flavor adventure Daterra brings to your daily brew. This single origin from Brazil blends nutty chocolate notes with ripe plum—and it’s naturally low in acidity. We source it directly from „Daterra – Sustainable Coffee“, a trailblazer in eco-friendly farming and one of our longest-standing partners.

Daterra Farm

We first connected with the Daterra team during a coffee trip through Brazil in 2018 – and we’ve been visiting and collaborating ever since. Their goal goes beyond quality: they’re out to create coffee that changes the world. By partnering with universities and research centers, they’re constantly evolving farming practices to protect natural resources and improve long-term impact.

Preparation Tips

Filter machine, hand brew, or Chemex – Daterra shines with any filter method. It’s especially balanced and smooth when brewed with a Moccamaster.

Medium and Fresh Roast

Our roasting team in Berlin roasts Daterra fresh every week using a gentle, medium roast profile. It’s designed to highlight the coffee’s unique mix of chocolate richness and fruity clarity.

Origin

Daterra is located in Brazil’s Cerrado region near Patrocínio, one of the country’s oldest and most respected coffee-growing areas. The farm is divided into 216 micro-lots – each just 5 to 15 hectares – creating a naturally diverse ecosystem. Coffee plants thrive here at elevations up to 3,940 feet (1,200 meters), thanks to ideal sun, wind, and soil conditions. These varied altitudes and microclimates produce a wide range of flavor profiles – from velvety and chocolatey to light and floral. Daterra is a hub for barista champions and coffee experts worldwide. It was the first farm in Brazil to be Rainforest Alliance certified, and in 2015, it was named the most sustainable farm in Brazil by Globo Rural, the country’s top agricultural magazine.

Processing: Natural

At Daterra, cherries are only picked once their flavor hits peak ripeness – determined through multiple tastings. Then, a custom-built machine (ten years in the making!) sorts each cherry by ripeness with incredible precision. The beans are slowly dried to the perfect moisture level, then allowed to rest for over 40 days in large wooden silos – bringing out a smoother, richer, rounder flavor. Finally, the beans go through several rounds of sorting – by size, weight, and even using light scanners to detect tiny flaws. What’s left? Only the top-tier beans: clean, balanced, and full of flavor – just as they should be in your cup.
