Sunshine in your Cup
A sip of Solona is like a trip to the tropics. Hints of papaya and mango make this chocolatey espresso from Ethiopia a sunny taste experience and give you that holiday feeling – no matter where you are. This single origin coffee impresses with its balanced flavour and remarkable clarity, which is unusual for a natural coffee.
Exceptional Specialty Coffee from a Long-Standing Partnership
Solona is a community in the West Arsi Zone, located in Sidamo in southern Ethiopia. The region has been famous for decades for its outstanding Ethiopian coffees. Solona particularly impressed us during the coffee selection process after the harvest in Ethiopia and consistently produces fantastic green coffees. The farm is a partner farm of our friend Heleanna and the export company Moplaco, from whom we have been sourcing exceptional specialty coffees for a long time. The company supports female farmers in the region and invests in better local education opportunities.
Traditional Ethiopian Natural Processing
The team at the Washing Station attaches great importance to the careful processing of the cherries. The washing station is located at an altitude of 2,200 metres, which means that the cherries ripen late during the harvest season. This allows the beans to develop their intense sweetness and provides optimal conditions for exceptional coffees.
After picking, the ripe coffee cherries are separated from the unripe cherries by floating them in a water bath and then dried in the sun on raised drying beds for about three weeks. During this time, they are regularly turned by hand to ensure even drying, and defective cherries are sorted out. The naturals from this washing station are particularly impressive for their fruity and complex flavour.
Tips for Preparation
Its chocolatey, fruity flavour really comes into its own when prepared in an espresso machine, stovetop coffee maker or AeroPress. Are you a fan of filter coffee? Thanks to its light roast, it is also suitable for preparation in a French press! As a lively all-rounder, it can be enjoyed in refreshing iced espresso or cold brew variations, bringing Ethiopian sunshine into your home.
Solona, a chocolatey and fruity Ethiopian Natural, brings sunshine into your cup. Summer fruits such as papaya and mango, combined with a smooth, clear body, make it a lively all-rounder – whether as a classic espresso or cold brew.
Team Moplaco
The washing station is run by our partner Heleanna Georgalis and her team at Moplaco. Working together with local communities, they focus on fair structures, support female farmers in the region, invest in better local education and combine social impact with uncompromising care in processing. Here, precise selection, craftsmanship and ideal conditions come together to create coffees with exceptional depth.
