Like a Liquid Cherry Truffle
Chire is your sweet highlight of a summer’s day: with complex notes of fruity berries and dark chocolate, this single origin from Ethiopia tastes like a liquid cherry truffle. Its fine acidity, juicy fruitiness, and balanced strength give this natural espresso a sunny character that brightens your everyday life with every sip.
Coffee Production with Uncompromising Care and Social Impact
Chire Espresso is produced at the Bensa Chire Coffee Pulping & Processing Station in the village of Kubulta, which our partner Nibret Alemu has been running since 2014. The station is located in the district of Chire, in the eastern highlands of the renowned coffee region of Sidamo.
The 100% Arabica natural is imported by Heleanna Georgalis and her team at Moplaco, who are known for their uncompromising attention to detail. Together with local communities, they promote fair structures, support female farmers in the region, and invest in better educational opportunities on the ground.
Cultivation on Clay Soils and Traditional Natural Processing
Chire grows at altitudes of 1,900–2,100 meters, where fertile clay soils and perfect climatic conditions provide an ideal foundation. Combined with the region’s typical altitude, this makes the area one of the best growing regions for Ethiopian specialty coffees.
The ripe cherries are sun-dried – without being pulped beforehand – on African beds and turned several times during the two- to three-week drying period to ensure an even result. Because the cherries ferment as whole fruits, their natural flavors penetrate deep into the beans – the result is a sweet, fruity espresso with fine acidity, impressive depth, and plenty of power.
Tips for Preparation
Chire unfolds its harmonious interplay of chocolate and fruit beautifully in the espresso machine, moka pot, or AeroPress. It’s also a delight as French press or cold brew variations – a versatile all-rounder for everyone who loves fruity flavor profiles.
With Chire, every sip becomes a sunny highlight of your day – chocolatey-sweet, berry-fruity, and multi-layered.
