A Sip of Morning Sunshine

Maíra Gomez tastes like the first rays of sun after a summer rain – vibrant and surprisingly balanced. This Honduran microlot blends the nutty, chocolatey sweetness of dark praline with a hint of fruity mandarin, creating a clear washed coffee with delicate acidity.

A Microlot. A Tribute to Strength and Dedication.

This special microlot is the result of courage, commitment, and generational change. Maíra Lizzeth Gomez grew up among Honduran coffee plants. Involved early in the work on her parents’ farm, she developed a deep understanding of coffee cultivation and the desire to forge her own path. After finishing school, she invested her savings in a small piece of land in San Miguelito – laying the foundation for what is now her farm, “Finca Diamante.”

Together with her family, Maíra now cultivates 2.8 hectares in the mountains of Opalaca in western Honduras. She stands not only for outstanding coffee quality, but also for change and responsibility. As a member of the indigenous Lenca community, she has been actively advocating for equality and education for over 13 years – especially for women in the region. Her work is closely connected to Becamo’s GEA program, which supports coffee produced exclusively by women. In 2018, she founded the coffee mill “Beneficio de Café San Miguel” together with her husband, in order to further improve quality and processing in the region.

Today, her three sons are also part of the business, creating jobs for young people in the community. The sale of this microlot – named after her – supports Maíra’s vision for a fair and sustainable future for coffee. A coffee with a message – strong in flavor, strong in story.

Honduran washed coffee from the mountains of Opalaca

The washed coffee from Maíra Gomez comes from the highlands around San Miguelito, one of the most renowned coffee regions in the country. The focus is on sustainable, quality-driven cultivation, characterized by careful attention to detail: the coffee cherries are hand-selected, fermented, and then gently dried on raised beds. The washed process results in a clean coffee with balanced sweetness, fine nutty-chocolate notes, and a fruity accent reminiscent of mandarin.

Maíra works with robust and aromatically interesting varieties such as Anacafé 14, Parainema, Lempira, and Obata. In the high altitudes of around 1,200 meters, these develop a multi-layered flavor spectrum – the ideal foundation for an exciting, balanced coffee with depth and character.

Tips for Preparation

Maíra Gomez reveals its full potential when prepared with a hand filter, such as the Hario V60, or with the Aeropress. The light roast ensures a harmonious balance with a clear structure and delicate acidity. Do you like your coffee best when it’s black? Then Maíra Gomez is perfect for you.

Every sip of this washed Arabica tells a story of new beginnings in the highlands – and how, with great commitment, agricultural know-how, and genuine passion, exceptionally high-quality specialty coffee with an elegant flavor is created to surprise you again and again.
