A Place in the Sun

Like chocolate-coated raspberries on a sunny afternoon: Guji is intensely fruity, naturally sweet and wonderfully vibrant. Subtle floral notes in the finish lend this sun-dried natural coffee extra depth, making it a complex espresso with plenty of character. In the Ethiopian highlands, the Arabica beans ripen particularly slowly, developing their very own hint of summer in the process.

Exceptional Quality from Ethiopia’s Airy Heights

The renowned Guji coffee region is situated in southern Ethiopia: we have been working closely with the local farmers there for many years and are consistently impressed by the exceptional quality of the coffee. The washing station is situated at an altitude of 2,050 metres. Due to the high altitude, the coffee cherries ripen particularly slowly here and late in the harvest season. This allows them to develop an intense natural sweetness, laying the foundation for an espresso with a distinctive character.

Three Weeks of Abundant Sunshine and Meticulous Handcrafting

Guji comes from our long-standing friend Heleanna and her team at Moplaco. The processing focuses on the careful selection of the coffee cherries: after harvesting, the ripe red cherries are first separated from unripe and less dense fruits by floating them in a water bath. They are then spread out as whole cherries on raised drying beds and dried in the sun for around three weeks.

During this time, the cherries are regularly turned by hand to ensure they dry evenly. At the same time, any damaged cherries are carefully sorted out. Thanks to this gentle natural processing method, the fruity and floral characteristics of the cherries remain particularly pronounced, giving the espresso a particularly intense and complex, yet clear flavour.

Tips for Preparation

Guji’s fruity, sweet character really comes into its own when brewed in an espresso machine or a stovetop coffee maker. If you prefer something refreshing, Guji is also brilliant as an iced espresso or cold brew. This brings out its intense fruitiness in a whole new way.

Crisp, fruity and full of sweetness: the lively character of this Ethiopian natural coffee makes for warm, radiant afternoons.

Super Kaffee

Super Kaffee.
