So Your Coffee Can Tell its Whole Story
The LAB Series is the direct result of targeted research conducted at the “Burr Lab” in Bavaria. The goal is to bring out the unique character of each bean and to explore the vast diversity of the coffee world in all its nuances. To achieve this, Comandante uses precisely calibrated burr geometries—that is, specially shaped and arranged cutting teeth inside the grinder (the grinding cone).
What Makes the LAB Series so Special?
The LAB Series takes the proven technology of the classic C40 hand grinder and turns it into a true specialist. The high-quality materials and mechanics maintain the same high standard as the classic C40 Nitro Blade:
- Nitro Rex® (The Heart): This stainless steel, specially manufactured in the Alps, forms the grinding cone. Enriched with nitrogen, the material is extremely sharp, durable, and completely flavor-neutral. This ensures that the character of your coffee beans remains completely unaltered.
- QTP® (Mechanics & Container): This is a high-performance polymer reinforced with quartz nanoparticles, used in the mechanical components and for the bean container.
It is 100% food-safe, feels like fine ceramic, but is shatterproof and therefore ideal for travel. At the same time, its tremendous stability inside the grinder ensures that the axis remains perfectly centered even with hard beans, resulting in an extremely consistent grind.
The key difference lies inside: While the exterior remains familiar, the models differ in the shape of their cutting blades. The different grinding mechanisms – Nitro Blade®, Hammerhead®, or Tigershark® – specifically alter the force required, the grinding speed, and how the coffee grounds are ground (the so-called particle distribution). As a result, each model is perfectly tailored to the specific requirements of different brewing styles and roast profiles to extract the absolute maximum from every bean.
